FEBRUARY 21st INTERNATIONAL TOURIST GUIDE DAY

This beautiful profession, which looks like fun, is not as easy as we think. A tourist guide must have cultural and historical knowledge of the areas in which he or she specialises. He or she must also speak several languages in addition to the obligatory English. As if that were not enough, the certified tourist guide must have knowledge of first aid in order to immediately attend to any accident or discomfort of the tourists in the middle of the trip. They must also know all the equipment used in the tours they offer: water sports such as fishing, snorkelling, kayaking, navigation in rivers, lakes and seas and know what can and cannot be done, as they have several lives under their responsibility.

Therefore, you should be very careful when choosing your tour guide or tour agency.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS to help you do it safely and make your trip a success:

  1. Call the hotel where you will be staying to ask for details of their official tour provider or DMC. Allow the hotel to help you book, as this way they also take responsibility for the suppliers they recommend, so you can be sure that they are a reliable supplier. Further, the hotel can charge the tour to your room account.
  2. Search for reviews of DMCs on Trip Advisor or Google for other tourists’ experiences with them.
  3. Once you have selected a provider, carry both the hotel’s phone number and the guide’s phone number with you during the trip in case you get lost. It’s a good idea to carry your mobile phone 100% charged, as there will be places in the jungle or at sea where you won’t be able to charge it, or even get a signal.
  4. Be attentive to any information from the guide, clarify all your doubts and stay close to him for any unforeseen eventuality.
  5. Inform the guide, even if he doesn’t ask you, about any allergies and medications you are taking and where you are keeping them, in an extreme case, he will know what to do.

AFTER YEARS OF ABSENCE, TULUM CARNIVAL RETURNS 23-25 FEBRUARY 2024.

Carnival festivities began long before the rise of Christianity and was a celebration noted in many pagan religious calendars. It has been speculated that carnival originated around 5000 years ago with the Egyptians, others point to the Greeks, as there were festivals that occurred around the cycles of nature and the universe in both cultures.

In ancient times, long before the rise of Christianity, people had celebrations around the winter and summer solstice, and the spring and autumn equinoxes. And these same people were reluctant to give up these celebrations, even after they became Christians.

The word carnival comes from the Latin words carnis (meat) and levare (“to leave out”), because right after carnival comes Lent: 40 days of sacrifice in which no meat is to be eaten before Easter.

In America from New Orleans, through Mexico, Brazil, Peru and many coastal countries, we have these amazing parties with parades, dances and fashionable artists.

This year, Tulum will be no exception, there will be carnival with the groups of the moment such as Edwin Luna y La Tracalosa de Monterrrey, Sonora Dinamita and Tierra Sagrada, who will be performing at the Parque del Museo de la Cultura Maya between the 23rd and 25th of February.
