EQUINOX IN TULUM: REBORN WITH THE ENERGY OF THE SUN AND THE MAGIC OF MARCH

The vernal equinox is an event full of magic and meaning in Tulum. During this phenomenon, the sun aligns perfectly with the pyramid of Kukulkan at Chichen Itza, marking the symbolic descent of the feathered serpent, a powerful message of rebirth and balance. In Tulum, this energy is lived with great intensity, giving rise to festivals, ancestral rituals and celebrations that honour the connection between nature, the universe and the spirit. March becomes an ideal time to reconnect, renew and be enveloped by the vibrant essence of this paradise.

ALBORADA MAYA

Alborada maya at Tulum

The Mayan Alborada is an ancestral rite full of spirituality and gratitude. This ceremony is performed to give thanks for the year’s harvest and to ask the Mayan gods for continued abundance and protection. It is a moment of deep connection with nature, where the scent of copal purifies the environment and prayers are raised to the universe as an act of respect for ancestral traditions.

At Alea Tulum, we are joining this sacred practice by passing copal through our areas daily at 6pm from 7-18 March as a symbol of gratitude, freedom and connection to our Mayan roots.

RALLY MAYA MEXICO: A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME STARTING IN TULUM

Rally maya Caribe
Rally maya Caribe

Every year, the roads of southeastern Mexico come alive with history and excitement during the Rally Maya Mexico, an event that blends a love for classic cars with the rich cultural heritage of the region.

This thrilling journey begins in the enchanting destination of Tulum, where the mysticism of the Mayan culture meets the pristine white sands and turquoise waters of the Caribbean. From there, the rally winds through breathtaking landscapes, ancient archaeological sites, and vibrant Mayan communities, ultimately reaching the heart of Yucatán.

The Rally Maya Mexico is more than just a showcase of vintage automobiles; it’s a tribute to tradition, gastronomy, and the enduring legacy of the Mayan world. Along the way, participants have the chance to immerse themselves in the cultural richness of the region, while their meticulously preserved vehicles — timeless treasures over 40 years old — captivate onlookers at every stop.

Prestigious brands like Porsche have participated in the event, adding a touch of elegance and excitement to this remarkable experience, where heritage and horsepower unite.

Summer 2024 Updates

AFTER HURRICANE BERYL ALEA TULUM IS BACK ON ITS FEET

Ready to have a great summer. Fortunately Tankah Bay had no significant damage. All protocols before, during and after Beryl were applied, ensuring that no guests or employees were affected. As for material damage, only some plants and wood that are already repaired, and although sadly the pier of Alea Tulum was lost, the beautiful essence and personality of this beautiful hotel is preserved.

WELCOME TO THE TURLE SEASON IN TANKAH!

You have the privilege of being on a prime nesting beach for loggerhead, green and hawksbill sea turtles. These turtles are endangered and are VERY important to marine ecosystems.
VERY important to marine and coastal ecosystems. In order to protect and respect
these magnificent creatures there are certain protocols we must follow as responsible human beings. Sea turtles are an important part of marine and coastal ecosystems. The nesting season extends from late April to January.

Turtle hatching
Turtle hatching.

Please respect, help and protect turtles by adhering to these rules:

– DO NOT APPROACH A NESTING TURTLE.

A turtle coming out of the sea to nest can be easily frightened. A female turtle

needs space to choose where she will nest. After you see that she is settled and has finally dug her nest, do not approach a nesting turtle that she has finally dug her nest, you can sit quietly and watch. Don’t get closer than20 feet or 6 meters from her and keep voices and sounds very low. A frightened turtle returns to the sea and releases her eggs into the water and the entire nest is lost.

– NEVER USE WHITE FLASHLIGHTS OR CAMERA FLASH.

White lights alarm and confuse/disorient turtles and hatchlings. Use a red or amber light,

but do not shine it directly. In addition, turn off the exterior white lights on the beach side of the

the beach side of your Villa or shield them so they are not visible from the beach.

Close your curtains. If you have beachside lights or lighted piers, change the bulbs/lights to red.

bulbs/lights to red or amber during nesting season.

-DO NOT DISTURB, TRACK OR COVER A TURTLE NEST.

If you see this, tell the caretaker not to do so. A raked beach only prevents babies from hatching.

If you see a raked nest, a turtle in trouble or an injured turtle call Zofemat

+52 984 124 0449, or Security +52 984 266 1647; or Alea Tulum´s Front Desk +52 984 129 8898.

-DO NOT TOUCH TURTLES OR HATCHINGS.

– Hatchlings are delicate and should not be handled. If a baby turtle needs help, rub your hands with sand first. Our skin oil can harm a baby. Babies should be imprinted on the beach where they were born so they can return to the nest, if they are females. Do not place them in the water, allow them to crawl, this is very, very important for imprinting.

-DO NOT BLOCK THE PATH OF A TURTLE OR A BABY.

Baby turtles are very vulnerable. When they hatch, they need to get to the sea as fast as possible

because birds and other animals will try to will try to eat them. If you want to help, make a path

and remove any obstacles.

-REMOVE ALL ITEMS FROM THE BEACH.

All chairs, umbrellas, tables should be removed to allow the turtles a clear path to and from the sea.

-NO ANIMALS ON THE BEACH.

Dogs are not allowed on the beach during nesting season.

By being considerate, respectful and responsible, we can all play an active role in conserving these extraordinary creatures. Please help us to preserve the environment and the animals that graciously allow us to share their world.

With the valuable support of important commercial partners such as Volaris, Tukankin, Tulum

The role of women in the tourism industry

Every year the female gender is commemorated in March. The tourism industry is no exception and women play a fundamental role in many sectors of tourism and in all areas of a hotel. At Mereva, Alea and Nerea, their value is recognized and there is and always will be a space for them.

These hotels are part of the Nahuma group, whose female staff is distributed in all areas: Executive Committee, Kitchen, Front Desk, Housekeeping and Accounting.

Congratulations to all the women in the world of tourism; keep on preparing and keep on giving us that warm service.

#InternationalWomen’sDay.

Tulum as one of the most requested destinations this Easter.

The role of women in the tourism industry
Alea Tulum´s Penthouse oceanfront terrace.

Years before the pandemic in 2020, Tulum was already a must-see destination; during the pandemic this intensified because the Mexican Southeast never closed its doors. Today Tulum is still a top choice for travelers from all over the world, including Mexicans.

In addition to the main attractions such as the cenotes and the archaeological zone, Tulum prides itself on having a tourist infrastructure on par with any first class beach. For this reason, several international airlines have confirmed flights to Tulum’s new airport, recently inaugurated in December 2023. These airlines are: Delta, American Airlines, Spirit, United Airlines, Air Canada, Sunwing, Copa Airlines and recently Discover, from Lufthansa, which will fly next winter from Frankuft to Tulum with a stopover in Barcelona.

For US citizens, Alea Tulum and sister hotels Mereva and Nerea offer hotel + airfare on their websites using the “book now” button.

But, why Tulum?

Tulum has a special charm that comes from its Mayan roots, giving its gastronomy an original and cultural touch that enchants locals and foreigners alike. The Mayan culture that extends to the entire peninsula of Quintana Roo, is felt in Tulum like in no other destination. Unlike Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Tulum has fewer all-inclusive hotels, giving way to smaller establishments with personalized service.

Among the most important boutique hotels in Tulum are: Casa Malca and Papaya Proyect in the Hotel Zone; Bardo in the Tumben Kaa reserve; and in Zona Tankah, Mereva, Alea and Nerea; the latter with their own gastronomic proposal and beachfront rooms to disappear from reality and disconnect from everything; and, at no extra cost, have at your disposal acutic equipment such as kayaks, paddleboards, vests, fins, water shoes, snorkel and bicycles to explore the natural beauties in this area.

Nahuma, in harmony with Tulum’s nature

When it comes to boutique hotels in Tulum, the Nahuma group tops the list with 3 beautiful properties that blend with the wild nature but with all the comforts of the modern world and

Starting with Mereva, the group’s first hotel, it has a strong reputation for its warm service, family-friendly facilities and beach. Its restaurant, Bsky, has a stone oven that produces the best wood-fired pizzas in Tulum! Although specialties such as grilled octopus and brisquet cooked for 12 hours are also served.

The second hotel of the group is Alea, which to celebrate its 5th anniversary in November 2023, renews its rooms including bajareques (wood sticks) on ceilings and walls and boho chic bedding and deco, giving a more Tulum vibe to the rooms; also adds to its inventory Casa Alea Tulum, a comfortable beach house with 4 rooms fully equipped, available on Airbnb, Vrbo, Expedia, Booking or on the hotel’s website; also it can be rented for events and weddings. Alea and Casa Alea Tulum offer an authentic Mexican gastronomic experience at Tz´onot Restaurant. They also have gym, which can be used by the guests of the three hotels.

And last but not least, Nerea, the youngest of the group, opened in 2022 with 22 rooms, “your path to well-being”. Nerea connects with those seeking a retreat, relaxation, health, nutrition and flow towards wellness. Nerea has a small but beautiful SPA and massage services are offered at the piers of the three hotels. Its Umbal restaurant offers dishes with or without meat, but with organic and light ingredients. It never hurts to have an Angus burger with sweet potato bread for better digestion.

Guests and external clients can enjoy the three restaurants with live music during dinner in some seasons. A local attraction in Tankah very close to the hotels is Cenote Manati or Casa Cenote, safe and clean, guests can enjoy this low cost natural wonder without having to take a cab.
